Editor's Notebook: Moscow

In early 2007, I was invited to attend a machine tool trade show in Moscow -- as it turned out, I was one of only two American journalists to attend. I wrote a brief essay for "American Machinist," then wrote a longer piece which I shopped around to an array of publications, but to no avail. I offer that longer article here, in the belief that people should know that the Russian machine tool industry has every intent of competing in the world marketplace. RoboSapien v2, created by Mark Tilden for Wowwee Toys In January 2001, I had the opportunity to interview a remarkable scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory, who had developed a novel technique for making a robot "brain." A few years later, Mark Tilden left Los Alamos to develop products for a new company named WowWee Toys. I caught up with Mark exactly seven years after the first article and interviewed him for EntertainmentEngineering.com. Click on the picture to read the entire article.
